Child Protection

Save the Children Poland is supporting the most vulnerable and marginalized children through case management, alternative care and support to children and families living in collective shelters. Our Child Protection programmes aim to:

  1. Connect children at risk of or experiencing violence with consistent support from a caseworker or government social worker.
  2. Provide care for children evacuated from institutions in Ukraine in a setting appropriate to their individual needs and in line with national and international standards.
  3. Make sure children and families on the move have access to Child Protection, MHPSS, and Education services to strengthen resilience and prevent and respond to violence.

As of April 2023, we are delivering Child Protection programme in 36 locations, including Child Friendly Spaces in 2 reception centres and 16 collective living centres, 3 Barnahus children’s centres, and 15 residential care centres.

Thanks to our supporters and partners, we:

  • Established 18 Child Friendly Spaces across 2 reception centers and 16 collective living centers, where we provide integrated support and activities, as well as safe identification and referral for at risk children.
  • Supported over 1,500 children who were evacuated from institutional care across 19 locations, where we provide additional caregivers, safe identification and referral, group Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), education services, and non-food items for winter.
  • Established 3 new child advocacy centers for children affected by violence, where we provide services like specialist MHPSS and legal support.

Since the beginning of the response, we have worked alongside our local partners to provide child protection services to over 20,700 people, including more than 15,000 children.
